Statement of Intent

 Statement of intent-

For my print advertising promoting a new thriller TV drama, I will ensure it will comply to the rules set out by ASA. The posters, which will be featuring on bus stop posters and in town centres, must avoid content that could be inappropriate to any audience, show anti-social behaviour, or cause distress. These conditions are important since the posters will be visible to a wide range of people, not just the intended target audience. In TV broadcasting, various rules and regulations are in place to ensure that content is appropriate for different age groups. For example, content ratings help viewers understand which material is suitable for certain age ranges. This ensures that viewers are aware of the type of content they might see. Another important rule is the ‘watershed’ guideline, which restricts inappropriate content from showing during hours where younger audiences might be watching, making sure there isn’t exposure to adult content.

Representation in media is significant to viewers as it could influence how they can perceive identities and stories. Media products should be inclusive to ensure that they engage a wider audience. For my posters to be successful, they must appeal to viewers so that it can gain interest and engagement with the TV drama. I plan to include two different social groups- that being men and women. I will do so by including a male and female model to the poster. Since the poster will resolve around teenagers, I will represent them positively by not showing typical stereotypes such as substance abuse or drinking problems to avoid harmful portrayals.

The target audience for these posters will be 16-25-year-olds, particularly those who enjoy the thriller and drama genres. To appeal to this group, the poster will feature only young people within this age range. The design will show cool colours like blue and green to reflect the thriller aesthetic and hopefully attract the target demographic. The fonts, taglines and layout will be chosen to ensure that the design will effectively connect with the preferences of this age group.
